The Misawa Matsuri is one of the biggest festivals of the summer here, and it lasts four days. Huge, colorful floats parade through the streets with drummers, dancers, and a shrine procession, and the streets fill up with food stalls. We went every single day! On the second night, we even got dressed up in our yukata, a light summer kimono, for the festival.
The floats are huge and incredibly detailed.Family selfie on day one. This float tells the story of Momotaro, the boy born from a peach. All dressed up for the festival. The shrine procession.Forrest enjoying his festival snacks. This is the JASDF (Japanese Self Defense Force) marching band.Of course Misawa’s float has an airplane on top! These floats are as tall as the buildings, often taller!Forrest loved all the festival food.Playing on the big Misawa sign on the last day.
